Turn a Timbits box into an Easter Basket!

I am tickled bunny-pink that our classroom Easter baskets turned out so cute...
...and functional.

The Timbits boxes are sturdy and the children can safely carry their goodies home
after our Spring party without losing a treat!

I began our project by having the students create their bunny face.  They traced and cut one circle and two bunny ears on their own. We embellished them with triangle pink noses and googly eyes.  Everything else was hand-drawn.  They turned out adorable!

Next, I pre-cut the pieces for my students using simple rectangles to cover each side.  It didn't take long to measure them out and the process went quickly with my paper cutter.  I also cut a piece to cover the handles as well. That piece was a bit trickier.

I found it easier to have the students glue the pieces onto the box BEFORE we assembled them.  This allowed them to line up the pieces because the box was lying flat.  It is also important to note that since the box has a shiny finish, we used Elmer's glue to help them adhere to the box.

The final touch was to add our adorable bunny faces.

The students were able to open the box and lock them into place easily on their own.

With one piece of tape to reinforce the bottom of the box so the contents did not fall out, and a little Easter grass; our Easter baskets were ready for the Bunny!

I plan to fill their baskets with treats after school and hide them in the classroom for them to find on our last day before Spring Break.  I can't wait to see the joy on their faces!

And...later in the day when they are at special, I plan to hide the Easter eggs.  The baskets will be big enough to hold the eggs that they find and all the treats from the Bunny.

This makes for HOPPY first graders and one HOPPY teacher!
